Saint Clair Family Estate is proud to announce the success of Saint Clair Pioneer Block 22, Barn Block Pinot Noir 2011, which has been awarded the trophy for the Best Pinot Noir at the Shanghai International Wine Challenge.
The Shanghai International Wine Challenge is not new to the family owned Marlborough winery having previously been successful in this well respected wine competition. In 2010 and 2011 Saint Clair won trophies for both Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. This year Saint Clair Family Estate was the only New Zealand wine company to achieve gold medal status.
The Shanghai International Wine Challenge hosts a number of high calibre international judges such as Mr. Bob Campbell MW (New Zealand), Mr Norrel LP Robertson PG DipV&O MA MW (Britain), Mr. Roderick Smith MW (France), Ms. Cathy van Zyl MW (South Africa) and Ms. Annette Scarfe MW (Singapore). The wines are blind tasted utilising a 100 point scale system. Trophy winners are the wines receiving the highest score.
Saint Clair Winemaker Hamish Clark recently returned from a visit to China showcasing Saint Clair wines to select trade, media and consumers. Hamish comments; “this success is attributable to a consolidated team effort led by our red winemaker Kyle Thompson.Recognition of our quality is incredibly valuable to us as the trophy reaffirms our world-wide positioning of Saint Clair Pinot Noir.” Saint Clair Pinot Noir is consistently showing exceptional quality having received six trophies over the last two years.
Sales representative Alice Zhong from Aussino World Wines was both thrilled and honoured to attend the award ceremony on Friday night and receive the award on Saint Clair’s behalf.
The importance of this emerging market is significant to Saint Clair Family Estate and awards such as this assist with brand development and global recognition as a leading New Zealand wine producer.
