A widely recognised New Zealand international commercial wine show has awarded Saint Clair Family Estate Gold medal status for two wines. The New World Wine Awards 2016 launched its results today, announcing the following Gold medal wins for Saint Clair; Gold Medal – Saint Clair James Sinclair Marlborough Chardonnay 2014, Gold Medal – Saint Clair Gimblett Gravels Cabernet Merlot 2015.

The New World Wine awards had a record number of entries this year with 1,319 wines being entered from 159 different wineries. Each wine is judged by an independent panel of 13 expert wine judges using the same internationally recognised points system as other leading awards.

Jim Harré, our Chair of Judges, commented, “Once again the wine industry has provided us with an incredible collection of wines to judge. The 2016 wines are already showing superbly and on the basis of the wines we’ve tried, it looks like 2015 and 2016 are both extraordinary vintages. The judging panels were again delighted at the level of support by the wine industry for this show. Consumers, who closely follow the results of this competition, will again be delighted at the breadth of styles and the overall quality of these results.”

The New World Wine Awards is a competition for commercially available wines from both New Zealand and overseas that retail under $25. The results are eagerly anticipated by both media and wine lovers each year.

Receiving these awards demonstrates Saint Clair’s ability to provide quality wines that are both available and affordable, further cementing the family owned Marlborough wine company as a leading New Zealand wine producer.

“It’s a thrill to see these wines show their potential and be recognised by a top class judging panel,” comments Managing Director Neal Ibbotson. “Both wines provide consumers with a quality wine with great drinking style and excellent value for money.”
