Saint Clair Family Estate is thrilled to announce that for the second consecutive year, the Pioneer Block 28 Camp Block Pinot Blanc has succeeded in securing the title of ‘Champion Other White Wine’ in the esteemed Marlborough Wine Show, hosted by Wine Marlborough. The coveted trophy sponsored by Move Freight Logistics was awarded to the 2020 Pioneer Block 28 Camp Block Pinot Blanc, following in the footsteps of its earlier 2019 release which was awarded the same trophy in the 2022 Marlborough competition.
The Saint Clair Pioneer Block 28 Camp Block Pinot Blanc was named after the vineyard site which was once a camp for the Royal New Zealand Air Force in the Second World War. The area is a warm, free draining moderate vigour site that favours the aromatic varietals, forming the ideal foundations for the Saint Clair winemaking team to craft this complex and well-rounded 2020 wine. Winemaker Kyle Thompson reflects, “Another incredible accolade for our special parcel of Pinot Blanc. The team are super happy about this award. It’s a fun variety to make and shows the depth and diversity of Marlborough wines.”
Saint Clair has had an exceptional wine show season, receiving accolades on the national and international stage. The winery has secured medals and trophies for a diverse range of varietals that extend beyond the renowned Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc style. Notably, the Saint Clair Pioneer Block 5 Bull Block Pinot Noir 2021 recently earned the prestigious title of Champion Wine of the Show at the National Wine Awards. Not only this, but the Pioneer Block 12 Gewürztraminer was also awarded Champion Aromatic Wine at the same competition. These recent triumphs showcase Saint Clair's unwavering dedication to crafting high-quality wines and highlights Marlborough’s ability to produce outstanding wines from a wide range of varietals.
The Ibbotson family, alongside the team at Saint Clair Family Estate expresses gratitude to the panel of 17 expert judges, critics, and enthusiasts who tasted more than 550 entries over the span of a week, awarding 46 gold medals and 19 trophies. A special mention also to the many who work hard to create such an outstanding event here in Marlborough.
