The New Zealand International Wine Show 2013 will announce trophy winners at a dinner with world class wines held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Auckland on Saturday 28th September. On this evening the full Champions List will be confirmed and the recipient of the Sir George Fistonich Medal as a Legend of New Zealand wine will be named.
It is apparent the new 2013 vintage Sauvignon Blanc wines from Saint Clair are of exceptional quality with six gold medals being awarded for Saint Clair’s Sauvignon Blanc single vineyard Pioneer Block wines, as well as the iconic Saint Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. Pinot Noir was also well awarded achieving four gold medals and Chardonnay two.
The winemakers are ecstatic about the gold award for the Saint Clair Godfrey’s Creek Reserve Noble Riesling 2013 as this wine is only made when Mother Nature provides perfect conditions for Botrytis Cinerea. At near 100 per cent infection in the vines just about every berry was losing water and shrivelling but not losing the flavour, acidity or sugar, a perfect scenario for a perfect Botrytis wine.
The combination of flavour intensity and quality in the vineyard combined with excellence in winemaking are essential factors leading to the gold medal success in the wines listed below;
