It is with great pleasure that Saint Clair Family Estate announce their success at the Marlborough Wine Show winning the highly acclaimed ‘Wine of the Show’ trophy. This was awarded to New Zealand’s most decorated Sauvignon Blanc, Saint Clair Wairau Reserve with its 2021 vintage. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions the usual ‘long lunch’ Marlborough Wine Show awards celebration was unable to take place. Instead, the announcement was made earlier today over social media.
The Saint Clair team at the winery watched the announcement in anticipation and then celebrated with a glass of the highly prestigious Saint Clair Dawn Méthode Traditionnelle. This was not the only trophy win for the family-owned Marlborough winery and it is an absolute thrill to announce further trophy success.

This show is run by Wine Marlborough and promotes sub regionality and diversity of wines grown in New Zealand’s largest wine region. The judging at the Marlborough Convention Centre took place under strict level 2 Covid guidelines. A full three days of blind tasting across a total of 544 wines.
Saint Clair family members along with senior winemakers Stewart Maclennan and Kyle Thompson received the trophies at a pre-recorded session yesterday. The group commented that it was a shame to not be able to receive the awards under usual circumstances with the wider wine community however, the thrill of being the recipients of such amazing trophy wins was still there.
Managing Director Neal Ibbotson commended Stewart and Kyle along with the wider winemaking, viticulture, cellar and administration team on their dedication across all facets of the business on quality. “Without this team of amazing people, we would not have been able to achieve success such as this. It is a huge honour to be part of such an amazing story. The Saint Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc is Saint Clair’s flagship wine, and the announcement of a Wine of the Show award continues to further enhance its longstanding award-winning journey.”
Celebrations of the success will continue well into the evening tonight and Saint Clair will continue to promote this outstanding achievement for years to come! The best Pinot Noir and best Sauvignon Blanc (along with the best of the show) from one of New Zealand’s most recognised wine competition continues to support Saint Clair’s reputation as one of New Zealand’s leading wine producers.
